Arts & Crafts!

Here you’ll find the {mostly Pinterest inspired} arts & crafts we create with our kiddos!

The Brooding Hen: Hardware Store Bath Toys:

My kids loved this and were entertained for a good 20 mins in the bath. They really enjoy bath time, so when I saw this idea we immediately went to the store. We are going to add more pieces soon. I can't wait!

What you need:
pvc pipe- choices are endless!
a lot of suction cups
drill bit about the size of the indented end of the small part of the suction cup

How to:
1) Drill holes into the pvc where you want to add the suction cups.
2) Add suction cups
3) Put them on the wall and play away!

Salt Dough Ornaments

1) With Christmas creeping up around the corner {and early preparations being thought of for handmade gifts}, I thought I'd share the AWESOME recipe we used last year for Clay Ornaments. We used a Salt Dough recipe the previous year, and although it was very easy to whip up and work with, it left a little to be desired when it dried - cracks, discoloring, ect. I was determined to find a new recipe and came across one that promised beautiful, smooth, white ornaments in the end... so we gave it a shot.

2 cups baking soda
1 cup cornstarch
1 1/4 cup water

Mix the baking soda and cornstarch in a heavy pot. Add the water and stir to start mixing. Put on the stove on medium heat and bring to a boil stirring constantly.

In a minute or two the watery mixture will begin to thicken and then will quite suddenly take on the characteristics of mashed potatoes... take it off the stove as soon as it does this and dump it out of the pot onto a cookies sheet in one lump. Cover the lump with a damp dish cloth and leave to cool.

Once the clay has cooled you can separate it out - roll it/flatten it with a plate bottom - use cookies cutters/stamps/hand prints.... HAVE FUN!

I enjoyed this recipe MUCH better than the Salt Dough. The ornaments were beautiful when they dried; we could have definitely left them unpainted... but Boogie Man had other ideas ;)
